TONY ROWNEY MEMORIAL RACE
This race is in memory of Tony
Tony joined Dabs SLSC, already an accomplished surf ski paddler from Umhlanga SLSC
He founded the Dead Paddlers Society (Whose tours to explore darkest Africa are legend)
Tony initiated many surf ski tours to races on the SA coast
Tony Rowney introduced the concept of high altitude ski paddling
Tony was always at the vortex of fun

High Altitude surf ski paddling is all about introducing landlubbers to the sport
This is your chance to feel the vibe of surf ski paddling
Many of you take holidays at the sea and enjoy a paddle while on holiday

Surf ski design has evolved in our country
Our suppliers have cornered the world market and export by the container load

If you have a ski in Gauteng (or more than one) please paddle it next Thursday
If you can lend a friend your ski please do so
Our aspiration has moved from 50 skis to 100 paddlers
I know its a hassle but please take the time and effort to make sure your skis are on the water
For those seeking to borrow a ski use the kayak group; I am sorry I can not coordinate

THE COURSE AND RULES
10KM downwind
28 bouys to navigate around
Do NOT cut any bouy...a big wave might catch you
Start with tail touching the breakwater
Finish at the clubhouse at Blue Flag Beach
NB Skis are expensive...so no ramming, PLEASE
HAZZARDS
There will be wind (wind machine c/o Rosebank Fire Station)
There will be waves (wave Machine c/o Bill van der Walt)
There will be chaos at every turning bouy
A whirlpool will form
Watch out for Somali pirates
Slower skis will block your line
If you fall out its a long swim to shore
