ADreach is looking for help in organising mentoring and holiday work for SCARC members as part of their development.
SCARC chairman and City of Joburg paramedic and firefighter Nkosi Mzolo recently expressed his thanks for the support that he received in reaching his dreams. In a letter addressed to Brad Fisher, Elna McIntosh, Debbie Fietze, ADreach and sponsors Business Connexion, Yum Yum and HSE Solutions, Nkosi said: “All you guys believed in me, you gave me life, strength. You made all the beginnings of my career to come true”.
ADreach is now facilitating career guidance for SCARC’s younger members, and we need your help.
This is a great opportunity for all paddlers on the verge of making career choices, and an exciting initiative for companies to participate in:
INVITATION TO JOIN THE DABS (Juniors)/SCARC CAREER GUIDANCE WEEK
26 - 30 SEPTEMBER 2011 (allocated for shadowing by some schools)
3 OCTOBER - 7 OCTOBER 2011 (school holidays for those students that don’t have time off in previous week)
Imagine having to choose a career path for the rest of your life... If you have never been exposed to any opportunities?
What do accountants do all day?
How difficult is it to be a good salesman?
What can i do if i studied marketing?
How do they make radio ads?
Do IT guys fix computers all day?
I wonder if doing admin is boring?
You can help the youth make informed career decisions.
ADreach is coordinating two career guidance weeks. It’s this
Your company volunteers one day to expose students to the working environment. The format is entirely up to you, but advisable to break the day into smaller sessions where different individuals can share their experiences with the students.
- Let us know which day(s) are most suitable to you.
o 26 – 30 September 2011 – some schools have instructed students to do career shadowing during this week; some students will therefore be able to get some time off from school.
o 3 – 7 October 2011 – this is the school holidays; students who are not able to get time off during the previous week, will attend during this week.
o Your company can allocate one day for this initiative in the week most suitable to you, alternatively one or more days in each of the two weeks to give more students the opportunity to attend.
- Please let us know how many students you can accommodate.
- Please let us know what areas you can cover.
Please let us know by Wednesday 31 August 2011 by filling in this form.
ADreach will then coordinate the information and make lists available to DABS (Juniors) and SCARC members in grades 11 and 12. Students will be allowed to choose one career option from the list; students will be accommodated on a first come first served basis. Students will be allowed to put down 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice. If more slots are available, students will be allowed to attend a 2nd or potentially 3rd session as well.
It does not matter if we have more than one company offering career guidance in the same field – the more opportunities, the better, as more scholars can be accommodated.
